About the Land Youth
Negotiators Programme

At the 21st session of the UNCCD Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 21), YNA announced its second programme, the Land Youth Negotiator Programme (LYNP), intending to replicate the success of the CYNP.LYNP builds on and delivers in line with the UNCCD Article 19 on capacity building, education and public awareness: “1. The Parties recognize the significance of capacity building -- that is to say, institution building, training and development of relevant local and national capacities -- in efforts to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought. They shall promote, as appropriate, capacity-building: (a) through the full participation at all levels of local people (...) especially women and youth, with the cooperation of non-governmental and local organizations.”

In 2024, 100 negotiators were trained for LYNP. Among them: 57% identify as women, 23% as Indigenous, 0% as persons with disabilities, 14% as LGBTQIA+, 16% as young carers, and 12% as minority group members. 46 negotiators attended COP16, of which, 30 were funded by YNA.
